Co-opted Governor Vacancies

Having recently reviewed our legal constitution, we now have 4 vacancies for Co-opted Governors to join the school Governing Body.  Co-opted Governors are drawn from the local community and appointed by the Governing Body.

As a Co-opted Governor, you can make a valuable contribution to the strategic leadership of the school.  No formal qualifications are necessary, just an interest in children’s education and welfare, skills that would help the Governing Body in its work and the time to use your skills.

If you would be interested in taking on the role, please contact our Chair of Governors, Jo Winters, via the school office or by email

When contacting the Chair of Governors, please provide:

  • brief background information about your reasons for wishing to be a governor at Grange
  • your CV
  • any particular knowledge and skills you could bring to the role in areas such as
  • finance*
  • health & safety
  • safeguarding
  • premises management*
  • law
  • human resources*
  • policy formulation & implementation
  • marketing
  • data analysis
  • education

* Particular priorities at present, but not essential in your background.

The Governing Body will also need to establish that you are:

  • a local resident or
  • have an involvement in the community served by the school or
  • have suitable reasons for your interest in Grange and its surrounding area

Note, parents / carers of children in the school can become co-opted governors provided that fewer than half of the school’s total governors have children attending the school.  This means that parents / carers of the school can be appointed to 2 of these vacancies.

Our Governor Appointments Panel plans to meet potential new governors between 15th and 29th March 2018 so please indicate your interest in becoming a Co-opted Governor to the Chair of Governors by the end of Wednesday 14th March.

The purpose of the meeting will be to find out more about the experience and skills that you would be able to offer and to consider the extent to which your contribution would complement the overall skill set of the Governing Body.  It would also be an opportunity for you to find out more about us and the way we work.

Grange Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Confirmation of appointment of governors on to the Governing Body will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service).  Additional information can be found at
